Alison, once again, as in “Dog 281,” cannot sit back and do nothing when she perceives that injustice is being done—whether it’s a runaway cow on its way to slaughter, honoring a dead man’s will with provisions for the many cats living on his farm that his sister is trying to seize, or getting to the bottom of a suspected dog-fighting ring in the area. She is curious and follows her senses, often being led into the type of danger even good cops fear. Speaking of good cops: not all are, as you will find out in “More than a Number.”
